Video cut, join feature, rearrange of pieces of files, smart reencoding

Using the SolveigMM Video Editor it is possible to cut video and audio files, join several files together and preview the changes right away before saving the output file.

To cut the file you need to do the following actions:

  1. Place your file from the Media library to the timeline layer.
  2. Select the file with a mouse click and use the «Cut» button (the button with scissors) or you can also change the end and beginning of the file by moving the start and end edge of the file.

To merge several files into the single file, just place the files one by one on the layer of the timeline and click the «Publish» button.

Since the smart reencoding is in use for cutting or joining, the merged files can be of the different video/audio parameters.

You can also rearrange the pieces of files as you would like.

Transitions

Another essential feature of a video editor worth mentioning is the ability to add transitions between different clips or scenes in a video. Transitions are used to link different shots together, creating a smooth and seamless flow between them. They can add interest and variety to a video, making it more engaging for the viewer. Choosing the right transition for a particular scene depends on the message you want to convey and the overall style of the video.

There are various types of transitions available in SolveigMM Video Editor, such as fade in/out, dissolve, each with its own unique effect.

Adding transitions to your video is very simple – just navigate to the «Transitions» section on the left of the editor, select and grab the required transition with the left mouse button and drop it into the necessary position –  between two files /  segments of a file, at the beginning or end of the video file.

If it is necessary you can make specific settings for the duration of your transition.

Select the transition on the layer, it will be highlighted with the blue color, and set the needed duration of this transition effect.

Text and graphics overlay

A video editor also provides tools to add text and images to your video. This can be used to add titles, credits, or any other information that you want your audience to know. You can customize the text by changing its font, size, color, and position on the screen.

To place a text on the timeline please go to the «Text» tab on the left side of the editor, drag and drop the «Text» template to the timeline area and select the properties for your text.

Adding images to your videos is another great way to enhance their visual appeal. You can use photos to illustrate your points or create a certain mood. For example, if you’re talking about summer, you might add a picture of a beach or a sunset. If you’re discussing a product, you might show a close-up shot of it. Currently supported formats for images are PNG and JPG.

To add the image to your video, upload the image to the Media library, then drag it with your mouse and put it in the timeline.

The properties of the image could also be changed: click the image in the preview area or at the timeline and you’ll see available options for it. The settings that can be changed include size, position, rotation, opacity and other. The PNG and JPG files with transparency are also supported.

Audio overlay

Adding audio to your video is an important part of the editing process. You can use music to add atmosphere or emphasise certain moments in your video. When adding audio, it’s important to make sure that the volume levels are balanced and that the audio matches the visuals.

If you want to use pre-recorded audio, such as music or sound effects, you will need to import it into the Video Editor. It has a library of audio files that you can browse and select from, or you can upload your own audio files. Once the audio file is imported into the program, it can be edited just like any other video or image asset.

To add the audio track to the video follow the steps below, please:

  • put the video file from the Media library to the layer of the timeline,
  • select the audio file from the Media list,
  • place audio file at the layer under your video file,
  • if necessary, edit the audio length to fit the video file duration,
  • click the «Save» button to get the desired output file.

Chromakey feature

Chroma key technology has become a crucial tool for video editors, enabling them to effortlessly remove a green or blue backdrop from a subject and substitute it with a new setting. This technique has become widely utilized in film, TV, and online content production, giving creators an essentially limitless array of possibilities.

One of the main advantages of this function in Video Editor is that it allows users to easily remove a background from a video, which can be useful for various purposes such as creating special effects or adding the subject to a different background. Additionally, it can save time and effort compared to manually removing the background from the video.

To use this function, add the video with green background and the picture that you would like to be the background on the timeline. Then select video asset and click on the «Settings» icon (Settings icon). Then enable the «Chromakey» toggle as shown on the screenshot below. To start the editing process please click the “Save” button.
