By Olga Krovyakova - modified October 6, 2023, created July 16, 2021.
Abstract
This informational contribution describes a support of EVC standard added into Zond 265 video analysis solution from Solveig Multimedia. In the current implementation Zond 265 supports EVC bitstreams complaint with ETM 6.1 and is optimized for Windows platform.
1. Introduction
Zond 265 video analyzer is a professional tool, which allows users to perform in-depth investigation of the supported bitstreams compression structure, check the compliance problems and find visual artifacts. It already supports analysis of the other common video formats: HEVC, AVC, AV1 and MPEG-2. EVC being a new and quickly developing format is a great candidate for adding into Zond 265.
2. EVC support in Zond265
EVC support had been added to the version 5 of Zond 265.

Zond 265 is capable of showing frames structure, size and type in the timeline area (Figure 2).

All information is grouped into tabs.
Stream info tab shows a general information about loaded bitstream, statistical information about the GOP structure and EVC tools set. Figures 3 and 4 show the stream stats tab contents.

Bitstream tab contains information about NAL units of the file and their parameters.

Another supported feature is displaying of Prediction Partitions, Transform Partitions, Motion Vectors and other info grids in a preview window. Example of the Prediction Partitions grid of the file, encoded with the BTT tool, is shown in Figure 6.

The complete list of supported EVC features is as follows:
- Frame size bar chart
- Show different types of grids and images: Picture type, Color components, Tile boundaries, Prediction partitions, Transform partitions, Motion vectors, Compression details
- Calculate quality metrics, such as PSNR, MSSIM, VMAF
- Statistical data about the decoding process of the current frame and file, show bitstream toolset
- Detailed information about a coded unit and all of the transform blocks
- Reports generation
Conclusion
Solveig Multimedia integrated the EVC analysis into Zond 265 in order to facilitate and support the distribution of this new video compression standard and planning to continue the EVC support in Zond 265 along with the EVC standard deployment. We would be very grateful to get experts technical feedback and suggestions.
