HyperCam / Re: Hypercam Media editor preview doesn't play captured video
« on: December 02, 2020, 02:28:18 AM »
What makes you believe the video was recorded with Hypercam 5?  Is there something in the file itself?   The version of Hypercam I used was given in my initial post.  Here they are posted again with the information copy/pasted using the "About" dialog's "Copy version info" button:

Hypercam:
    Installed version  6.1.2006.05
    Version  6.1.2006.5
    Evaluation

Hypercam Media Editor:
    HYPERCAM
    Media Editor
    Installed Version: 8.0.2004.13
    Status:

I have uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled using another copy downloaded from the webpage you posted the link to.  The same problem still happens in Hypercam Media Editor for me when I open that MP4 file and press the preview's "play" button.

Several other programs play the MP4 file without problem:

  - VLC 3.0.7.1
  - Camtasia 2020 v20.0.12 (eval)
  - Solveig Video Splitter Home 7.6.2011.5 64-bit  (eval)
  - Solveig Video Splitter Home 6.1.1812.11 /  6.1.1808.22  32-bit  (registered) -  I don't know why Video Splitter 6 gives 2 different version numbers.

Only Hypercam Media Editor has any trouble.

Maybe there's a way to configure Hypercam to use Video Splitter as the editor instead of Hypercam Media Editor?  If not, it's probably not that big a deal for me to use Video Splitter manually.  Is there anything Hypercam media Editor can do that Video Splitter can't?  Hypercam Media Editor appears to be a strict subset.

Regardless, I'm not sure there's a whole lot of value trying to track down this particular problem since there are ready workarounds.

HyperCam / Hypercam Media editor preview doesn't play captured video
« on: November 29, 2020, 05:21:34 PM »
I captured a short video with Hypercam 6.1.2006.05 evaluation version.  When I stopped the recording, the video shows up in Hypercam Media Editor 8.0.2004.13.  However when I press the play button in the preview window the video preview doesn't change until it reaches the end of the clip where it shows the final frame.

Audio plays during the preview, and if I move the mouse cursor in the timeline window the relevant frames are displayed.  Also the video plays fine in VLC.

Any idea how to get the preview working?

I also tried editing the video in Video Splitter 7.6.2011.5 (eval) which looks *really* similar to Hypercam Media Editor (no surprise there), and it did not have the same problem.

requires the Windows Media runtime to operate correctly

That's reasonable. I'll try that some time over the next couple of days and post back to close the loop.

Thanks.  I'm not sure why I didn't find it myself.  Guess I'm getting a little slow...

General Discussion / Forum settings: sort order of posts
« on: December 04, 2017, 04:10:32 AM »
The forum defaults to showing the thread's most recent post at the top, which is the opposite of most forums do.  I'd like to have posts sorted the opposite way.  Normally there is a profile setting that allows a user to change this setting, but I can't find it here.

Is that setting actually disabled or am I just not clever enough to find it?

I am trying to install the current Video Splitter demo (SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_Home_Edition_6_1_1707_19.exe) and the installation fails with the following messagebox error:

Quote
Cannot register "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Solveig Multimedia\SMM_EditEngine.dll".

I tried installing just by double-clicking in Explorer as well as by right-click/"Run as administrator".  Same error both times.

This is a Win7 Ultimate  x64 w/SP1 computer.  However: it is the "N" variant that does not come with Media Player and various media codecs in case that matters.  I'm trying to avoid installing Media Player, but if the "Media Feature Pack" (which basically turns Win7 "N" into a standard Win7 install) is needed for Video Splitter, I will do that.

There is no antivirus or other anti-malware installed on this machine at the moment, This is a rebuild installation of the computer which is why I'm trying to reinstall Video Splitter, and I have not gotten around to installing AV yet.
