SolveigMM AVI Trimmer / "SolveigMM Video Engine Editing Error : Can't Start Trim Process"

Dear Sirs, When I try to edit a mpg file I get the above error. Does the engine work on mpg files and if so, what can I do about the error ? I have only recently started using the software and keep getting error messages.  I'm running Windows XP Pro with fully updated service packs etc.. I'd be grateful for advice !
