just tried avi trimmer and quite impressed of its user-friendly & intuitive interface, however when i playback the trimmed fragment, its starting point is not as what i marked?  any idea?  thks~

Hi all,
I'm a newbie and tryign to edit a video for my wife's presentation.  My first try out and this is what is happeneing:
COM Object Error
Input file has not been set properly or damaged
(The parameters is incorrect
hr = 0x80070057)
Please let me know what I need to do.  Is this a codec problem?

SolveigMM AVI Trimmer / AVITrimmer doesn't trim

Thank you for the info.

AVI trimmer operates with K-Frame accuracy.

Video sequence encoded usually consists of groups of pictures (GOP). GOP consists of Key frame (that is first one in GOP) and delta frames. Key frame is encoded independently as a statical picture but delta frames are predicted from K frame and can't be decoded without K frame.

Thus to provide an user fast and a video quality lossless video trimming, the Video Splitter performs trimming tasks with K Frame accuracy.
That means that all output fragments will be started with K frame.

You are right such a problems existed in the previous version of SolveigMM Video Splitter and SolveigMM AVI Trimmer.

My .avi file now loads... thanks for addressing this so quickly!  I tried a brief attampt at a clip, but was having a problem selecting and running the conversion (kept getting that new prompt about adding a clip.  I may be doing something wrong.  I'll get back to you on this if it isn't working.  I also found with V1.3 I was getting, at each clip point, a momentary freeze of the last frame lasting just a fraction of a second before the next clipped section played, and at each clip point, the sound got more and more out of sync.  After numerous clips, the sound was about 1 sec. late compared to the video.  I'm hoping the new version no longer does this.  I'll post back here when I've worked with the new version.

<edit>  OK, I've worked with this revised 1.4 version, and it now works fine... none of the prior problems I encounter showed up.  Excellent!

Thanks for a great editing tool... I can now highly recommend this verison.

Ok, it seems to be working great. My apologies for the crude remarks and I will post a retraction on Neowin. I can only say that I spent an entire day trying various software that would give me nothing but obscure errors. What I said was said out of frustration only.

There is one more simple test that could simplify exploring.

It is GraphEdit screenshot of DirectShow filters involved in playback.
 
 Please download this tool, open it, push menu->file->'Render Media
 File..' item and render the AVI file you handle with.

OK, it will not load a simple MJPEG encoded .avi file.  Interesting how this crept in at this stage of the development.  I hope it can be fixed quickly!

New version of freeware SolveigMM AVI Trimmer is available for download

SolveigMM AVI Trimmer if freeware AVI cutting software. This tool allows users to cut out any number of AVI fragments in one pass e.g. for commercials removing. No video quality degradation. No out of sync problems. No encoding/decoding.

Version 1.4

Features:

- Drug and drop added
- Current time editable box added
- Copy/Past features added to “Start time”, “Stop Time”, “Current time” edits boxes

- Mouse wheel video navigation added
- Dynamic audio/video stream change. Now during playback you can switch off/on video/audio streams
- Trim overlapped intervals feature added.

 

Changes:

- Help file (.chm) added and is called by F1
- Slider cursor increased for usability
- Now if you push Trim button and din not specify out file, “Save as” dialog arises
- Now if you push Trim button and have a selected fragment that you forgot to add to “Video Fragments” list, it will be added automatically

 

Fixes:

- Problem with the installed DivX Demux (DivXMedia.ax) with AVI support fixed.  Previous version sometimes could not open AVI file if DIVX codec pack was installed.
- Problem with the installed AviSplitter.ax (guliveriki project) fixed. Previous version returned  "Input file has not been set properly or damaged (The parameter is  incorrect. hr = 0x80070057)" error.
- Problem with error “The sample start time is after sample end time” fixed.
