You can avoid such crash with your current version by installing the necessary decoder. In your case it is most likely the AAC audio decoder, which can be installed as a part of a K-Lite codec pack.

Hi, got an error when opened and trying to add video to timeline some 5gb .mp4 videofile.
Seems bug on SMM_MP4Demuxer.ax, eavcdec_hd.ax or SMM_TimelinePreviewSource.ax
Tried latest beta: 6.0.1609.2 (02/09/2016)
OS: Windows XP SP3
