I don't think that's an acceptable solution. Version 7 was advertised as being capable of handling WMV files and I have actually used it to handle WMV files in the past, so it should still be able of doing so. Version 8 is more expensive than version 7, and I'm not interested in paying more money to get a feature that was already included in the version I purchased. Please help me to make version 7 work properly, or provide another solution that doesn't involve paying more money for what I have already purchased.

Hello Alonso,

Yes, we have reproduced the issue on version 7.6.
Version 8 of Video Splitter works correctly with WMV files.

I'm not sure if I'm following. Were you able to reproduce the problem?

Hello Alonso,

We have checked again this issue and noticed that it only happens on version 7.6. On version 8 of Video Splitter wmv files editing works correctly.

The version 7.6 is unfortunately not updated by us anymore as this is the old version.

So, the only solution that I can offer is to try to use the latest version 8 of Video Splitter available for the download at its home page:

Hi, following your instructions I have created a video that shows what happens when I try to open one of these files. You can download it here together with the logs.

Dear Alonso,

We have checked dxdiag file and can say that you have in your system needed codecs for working with wmv files.

Could you please record and send us log files of Video Splitter?

Here is how to get them:
https://www.solveigmm.com/en/howto/how-to-record-log-files-of-solveigmm-video-splitter/

If you could, please also record your actions with some screen capturing software, you can use, for example, HyperCam (https://www.solveigmm.com/en/products/hypercam/).

Thank you in advance.

You can download the output of the dxdiag tool here. However, as I said, I don't think there is any problem with my videos or with Video Splitter. I think all I need is a proper codec to let Video Splitter use my videos.

Hello Alonso,

We have checked your file and have not noticed the issue with it on Video Splitter.

Please send us to support(at)solveigmm.com information about your codecs.

Here is the guideline on how to get the DXDIAG file:

It looks like it happens with all WMV files. I've tried dozens, and it's always the same error message. Anyway, here you can download one of the many files that Video Splitter failed to open.

When I try to open one of these files, Video Splitter displays the message "Some files are not supported or damaged". I can send you a screenshot if that helps, although I'm not quite sure of how to attach pictures in this forum, I'd have to figure it out.

This happens with most of my WMV files, which are fine and can be played in VLC without problems.

By the way, I'm using Video Splitter 7.6 (I'm not interested in version 8).

Hello Alonso,

Thank you for your post.
Could you please describe your issue more detailed?
What do you mean by "fails to open"? Do you get the crash of Video Splitter, any error message on its opening or the file can not be played in Video Splitter?

Video Splitter fails to open most (maybe all) WMV video files in my system. I guess I don't have a proper codec installed. If that's the case, where can I get a proper codec and how can I install it so that Video Splitter is able to use it?

Thank you.
